Alain Jean-Baptiste (1999-)
I lived in Haiti until the 2010 earthquake, a devastating event that left deep scars on my family and me. Painting became my refuge—a way to make sense of the pain and chaos around us. Though I’ve always been drawn to art, I began taking my painting seriously in 2017. While most of my work is in oil on canvas, I’m constantly exploring new mediums and techniques. My paintings focus on telling Haiti’s stories, challenging the distorted narratives often associated with my homeland. For me, it’s crucial to share an authentic reflection of Haiti—our culture, values, and people.
